Yes, folks, it’s Crane of Thrones time as the fabled Iron Throne from the hit fantasy HBO/Sky Atlantic series is hoisted into the Tower of London for tonight’s premiere.
The cast and crew of series five are descending on the Norman landmark in east London for the first public showing of the long-awaited new series – and the throne which unites Westeros (or rather fails to most of the time) will also be there.
Guests are expected to include Sophie Turner who plays Sansa Stark and Natalie Dormer who plays Margaery Tyrell in the fantasy epic which is based on the books by George RR Martin.
Also due to attend is Jon Snow actor Kit Harington, Mark Gatiss (Tycho Nestoris) and Aidan Gillen (Little Finger).
The choice of the Tower of London as venue for the premiere is fitting given that Martin has always said the story is steeped in British history with the fictional setting of Westeros “closer to medieval Britain than anything else” as he puts it.
However we can’t guarantee whether the Tower of London’s famous ravens will be growing three eyes for the occasion…
The fifth series of Game of Thrones airs on Sky Atlantic on 13th April
