The 25-year-old actress, who played Matt Smith's Doctor Who companion Amy Pond, stars as the lead role in the new Glasgow-based romcom

Missing Doctor Who companion Amy Pond? Well, haven’t we got a treat in store for you…

Flame-haired 25-year-old actress Karen Gillan is the lead in new Scottish film Not Another Happy Ending. And we’ve got the trailer right here for you to watch.

Romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending is Gillan’s first major project since leaving Amy Pond and the Doctor behind in November last year, as well as her first starring role in a feature film.

The Glasgow-set movie stars Scottish-born Gillan as Jane Lockhart, a best-selling author who is secretly in love with her publisher Thomas Duval (played by Stanley Weber).

Jane only feels creative when she is unhappy, but her recent success has left her with writer’s block. So when Duval’s career begins to flounder it’s down to him to inspire Jane to put pen to paper again by making sure she’s miserable…

Karen Gillan played Doctor Who companion Amy Pond between 2008 and 2012. Since leaving the Tardis behind halfway through series seven of the sci-fi drama, Gillan has worked on NTSF:SD:SUV, Oculus and The List. She has also recently been cast in Marvel flick Guardians of the Galaxy.

Not Another Happy Ending will premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival on 30 June
