Summary

Acclaimed Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda teams up with Parasite star Song Kang-ho for this gentle and bittersweet Korean road movie. What sets the wheels in motion is a young mother visiting a "baby box" - a hatch in a building that allows parents to safely and anonymously abandon their child. When Sang-hyun (Song) and Dong-soo (Gang Dong-won) discover the baby, they decide to sell it on the adoption black market, only to find a detective (Doona Bae) and the baby's regretful mother (Lee Ji-eun) in pursuit. Song steals the show, flitting between devilish comedy and understated sentimentality with ease, while co-stars Lee and Bae also excel. After the likes of Shoplifters and Like Father, like Son, this is hardly new ground for Koreeda, but the film's lighter tone, plus Koreeda's assurance with family drama, makes Broker worthwhile viewing.
