Game of Thrones series 3 start date revealed

The new season of the fantasy drama will air in the US on 31 March and is likely to follow immediately afterwards on Sky Atlantic

UK Game of Thrones fans are looking at an early April start date for season three of the cult fantasy drama, which airs in this country on Sky Atlantic.

The new series of the HBO show will kick off on Sunday 31 March 2013 in America, and while a Sky spokesperson said it was too early to definitively confirm a launch date in this country, she told “we usually run the day after.”

That would be in keeping with the pattern for previous series of the show – which aired each Monday following the US premiere the Sunday night before – and would mean the series would begin over here on 1 April (and, no, this is not a pre-empitive April Fool).

Game of Thrones is based on the epic seven-book series by George RR Martin and charts political intrigue, bloody wars and steamy sex in the seven kingdoms of the land of Westeros.
