Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) continue with the next chapter of their lives in the new series, airing on Sky and NOW for fans in the UK, facing challenges old and new in friendship, love and loss as they also navigate a changing cultural climate.

However, they are not alone as they are joined by David Eigenberg as Miranda's husband Steve Brady, Evan Handler as Charlotte's husband Harry Goldenblatt, and Chris Noth as Carrie's one true love, Mr Big.

The late Willie Garson also returned as Stanford Blatch in scenes filmed prior to his death earlier this year, while Mario Cantone returns as Anthony Marentino.

More like this

However, And Just Like That wrote Stanford out of the series in emotional scenes in episode four, explaining the character's absence following the actor's death at the age of 57.

One person who did not make a comeback for the new series is Kim Cattrall, who played fun-loving Samantha Jones in the original programme and subsequent two movies, but the opening episodes address her absence very clearly.

That's not all, however, as another game-changing twist occurs that changes our ladies forever.

If that's not enough we also have new main characters in the form of Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez as Che Diaz, Nicole Ari Parker as Lisa Todd Wexley, Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel, and Karen Pittman as Dr Nya Wallace.

Back in July, Modern Love's Isaac Powell, Game Shakers star Cree Cicchino, Curb Your Enthusiasm's Niall Cunningham, Ramy's Cathy Ang, Hamilton's Christopher Jackson, and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel's LeRoy McClain were all revealed as new Sex and the City cast members.

If you want a recap on how Sex and the City ended its sixth and final season then we have you covered.

Additionally, RadioTimes.com has assembled all the details on which other new characters feature and how to watch the series in the UK.

Finally, if you're wondering about whether And Just Like That will return for a second season then you are not alone.

And Just Like That reviews

Harry and Charlotte in And Just Like That
Charlotte and Harry are enjoying this more than some critics are! Sky

Review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes has 59 per cent for And Just Like That, with an average audience score of 30 per cent.

Despite this, RadioTimes.com offered a mixed three-star review of the series.

Minnie Wright penned in her review: "And Just Like That gets off to a dramatic start. OK, not right from the start. First, we’re walked through the kind of catch-up that’s to be expected and necessary when you pick up a story many years after you left off, in typically heavy-handed Sex and the City style – but of course, we never loved it for its subtlety."

She added: "The show still has its comedic quirks, as well as its clumsy way of handling subject matter which is just par for the course at this point, but if the early instalments are anything to go by, this is a much less frivolous series than it ever was before."

And Just Like That full trailer

On November 30, fans were treated to their first full look at the upcoming new series. Catch the UK version of the trailer from Sky below.

The trailer looks surprisingly drama-free and incredibly uplifting, as Carrie's narration notes how everyone faces consistent change no matter where they are in their life.

She says at the close of the trailer: "And just like that, after all the year and all the changes, you're still you."

Of course, that means Carrie still loves her shoes!

"Hello, lovers," she comments adoringly at her closet shoe collection.

The ladies are most definitely back, albeit without Samantha, who is not mentioned here!

And Just Like That cast

Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte York Goldenblatt) are back to reprise their seminal roles from the Sex and the City cast.

However, the reactions weren't all positive to the ladies' big comeback and Sarah Jessica Parker has hit out at some examinations of the ladies' appearances.

"There’s so much misogynist chatter in response to us that would never. Happen. About. A. Man," the actress told US Vogue.

Cynthia Nixon added: "I think it’s revolutionary to do a show about middle-aged women, with their ageing lady bodies".

Sadly, original series star Kim Cattrall won't be returning as Samantha, Parker confirmed on Instagram.

"Samantha isn't part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do," she wrote in reply to a fan's comment.

In US Vogue, Parker added: "We have some new people, and we have some people who aren’t back anymore."

Samantha is revealed to have moved to London, England after a falling out with Carrie and she no longer speaks to the remaining three women.

Mr Big returned though, with executive producer Michael Patrick King telling Deadline: "I’m thrilled to be working with Chris again on And Just Like That

"How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex and the City story without our Mr. Big?"

However, how big a role he plays in the series became clear quite swiftly.

Other returning characters include Evan Handler as Charlotte's husband Harry Goldenblatt and David Eigenberg as Miranda's husband Steve.

And Just Like That (HBO)
Willie Garson and Mario Cantone in And Just Like That (HBO)

The late Willie Garson, who played Stanford Blatch in the series, also stars in what will be his last TV role. The actor appears in the first three episodes before being written out off-screen in the fourth episode.

Mario Cantone also returns as Stanford's husband and the girls' friend Anthony Marentino.

Fans can see a few new characters making their Sex and the City debut in the new series, including Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramìrez who plays Che Diaz – a non-binary, queer stand-up comedian who regularly invites Carrie onto their podcast.

"Che is a big presence with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humour and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular," Deadline said before the series began.

"Everyone at And Just Like That … is beyond thrilled that a dynamically talented actor such as Sara Ramírez has joined the Sex and the City family,” said executive producer King.

“Sara is a one-of-a-kind talent, equally at home with comedy and drama – and we feel excited and inspired to create this new character for the show."

The show also features Nicole Ari Parker as Charlotte's new friend and fellow school mum, Lisa Todd Wexley.

Sarita Choudhury also joins the cast as a glamorous real estate agent named Seema Patel who becomes friends with Carrie.

Meanwhile, The Morning Show actress Karen Pittman plays Miranda's new professor, Dr Nya Wallace.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Nicole Ari Parker discussed her part in the show along with those ofChoudhury and Pittman.

Parker described them as "four women of colour who are fully realized women with full lives".

The actress made clear that her own character was not replacing Samantha on the show, adding: "When it first came out that I was replacing the Samantha character — which is not true at all, so please write that — I have been yelled at, and I’ve also been attacked with love."

HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys said the creative team “didn’t want to tell a story with all-white writers or an all-white cast” because “it’s not reflective of New York. So they are being very, very conscious about understanding that New York has to reflect the way New York looks today" (via TV Line).

As for other additions to the cast, Brenda Vaccaro plays Mr. Big's long-time secretary Gloria Marquette, while Ivan Hernandez plays Franklyn, a sound engineer working on Che Diaz's podcast.

Dear Evan Hansen star Isaac Powell plays George, a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, while Ramy's Cathy Ang is Charlotte's daughter Lily Goldenblatt, Alexa Swinton plays her sibling Rock/Rose, Curb Your Enthusiasm's Niall Cunningham plays Miranda's son Brady and Cree Cicchino plays Brady's girlfriend Luisa Torres.

Meanwhile, Hamilton's Christopher Jackson is Herbert Wexley, the husband of Nicole Ari Parker's character Lisa Todd Wexley and a successful hedge fund banker, while LeRoy McClain plays Andre Rashad Wallace, a successful musician and husband to Dr Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman).

If that wasn't enough, John Corbett is also set to return as Aidan Shaw for at least three episodes of the show.

The character was last seen in the much-maligned Sex and the City 2 movie where he and Carrie shared a kiss - despite her marriage to Big.

Could Carrie see her romance with Aidan revisited now that Big is dead?
