We assume you have heard of it, however, because not only is it set to be the biggest game of 2026, but it could even be the biggest game release of all time – but will it have a physical edition at launch.

It's been a long time since the GTA 5 days where the idea of a big console release not getting a physical release would have been unthinkable, but those days are long gone.

So, will GTA 6 release with a physical edition on day one, or are we going to have to go digital? Here's everything you need to know.

Will GTA 6 have a physical edition at launch? Rumours explained

GTA 6 will be getting a physical release on day one.

In a February 2026 interview with Variety, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive, addressed rumours that the physical release would be delayed, stating "That's not the plan".

These rumours stemmed from a report from Polish website PPE.pl which claimed via leaker Graczdari, who correctly leaked the release dates of the Oblivion remaster, Switch 2 port of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and more, that there were no plans for a physical release.

Graczdari, who reportedly works in physical game sales for the European market, that Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive has no plans for a physical edition of the game at launch as a means of avoiding leaks, and that a physical edition would come several months down the line.

Of course, Zelnick's statement is rather non-committal, leaving the window open for Rockstar to change their minds in the run-up to release, it seems as if these rumours can be soundly put to bed.

In the meantime, we can all go back to whatever we were doing before, which for many of us will be playing GTA 5 non-stop until GTA 6 finally arrives.
