You’d be hard-pushed to find a period drama that sent RT readers into as much of a tizz as Pride and Prejudice when it was originally shown in 1995. Much light-headedness was caused by the sight of Colin Firth’s buttoned-up Darcy emerging sodden from a swim – a saucy addition by Andrew Davies, who adapted Jane Austen’s comedy of manners.
More than three decades on, this six-parter is still full of fizz, with the chemistry between Firth and his co-star Jennifer Ehle being the main draw.
