Episode 6: Episode 6

Summary

John's role as a consultant with Mid Wales police is made official, and he and Janie are tasked with solving the murder of a mechanic during a reunion party at Janie's old school. Links emerge to DC Chaudhry's recently unearthed cold case, concerning a body uncovered in a drain, and the suicide of Janie's teenage best friend 15 years previously

Review

David Brown

The BBC surely ought to be hurrying a festive episode into production. How about a Christmas special in which John Chapel (Timothy Spall) is filming a Caesar Christmas special? Janie (Gwyneth Keyworth) gets drafted in as a non-speaking extra, only for murder to strike on set?

This finale certainly sets things up well for the future, with John brought on board as a police consultant, a move that saves Janie having to massage his ego each time she needs advice. And with ratings for the show having been solid, it’s surely only a matter of time before we see the pair of them again.
