Summary

Crime thriller starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro. With the war between Mexican drug cartels and the American authorities becoming increasingly vicious, highly regarded FBI agent Kate Macer is sent to join an operation to bring down one of the more ruthless gangs. But Kate soon learns that her by-the-book approach to the job might not work in a world where nothing is quite as it seems.

Review

A star rating of 5 out of 5.

The unofficial war zone that is the US/Mexican border is the setting for this dark, gripping narco-thriller, which deals with the diminishing returns of the American government's war on drugs. Emily Blunt stars as a high-achieving, by-the-book FBI agent who co-ordinates SWAT missions in the state of Arizona. She is recruited by Josh Brolin to join his special ops team for their next mission. But he may not be all he seems, a suspicion fuelled by the presence of the aloof and shady Benicio Del Toro, who makes no attempt to ingratiate himself with the rookie. As Blunt is plunged into a world of bloodshed and duplicity, the sense of paranoia is brilliantly conveyed by director Denis Villeneuve.
