Review
Louise Griffin
The sprawling alternate history drama, co-created by Ronald D Moore, returns in style. The premise of this impressive sci-fi series is what could have happened had the Soviet Union placed a man on the moon first, and the space race never ended. Season five now sees another 10-year time jump. We’re into the 2010s and a thriving colony of people are living on Mars but, with tensions rising between Earth and the Red Planet, a gruesome discovery creates a worrying new mystery.
This opening episode is a strong start to the season — not least because of the striking prosthetics worn by 46-year-old star Joel Kinnaman who, as astronaut Ed Baldwin, has been aged up to make a strangely convincing octogenarian.
