Comedy drama starring Kevin Costner and Judd Nelson. It is 1971 and "The Groovers", five good-time college buddies, decide to go for broke on one last no-holds-barred trip across America before they fly to Vietnam. But bizarre adventures, weird characters and a car full of beer are not enough to banish the spectre of war.
Not only the first film to give an indication of Kevin Costner's star power, but also a crucial point in his career, as the director here, Kevin Reynolds, became a firm friend and went on to make Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Waterworld with him. This gently quirky rite-of-passage comedy drama began life as a student project for Reynolds, and follows five college friends in the early 1970s who set off on one last adolescent adventure before entering adulthood. Costner shines as the anarchic unofficial leader of the group, but he is more than matched by Judd Nelson, who turns in a powerful, mature performance.
