Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

Tom Hutchinson

In a movie that blends the sentimental with the supernatural, Patrick Swayze stars as the murdered man trying to warn girlfriend Demi Moore that she is in danger. Whoopi Goldberg plays the psychic he communicates through, and she provides the comic moments to lighten the potentially maudlin atmosphere. Goldberg's performance deservedly won her a best supporting actress Oscar, and Bruce Joel Rubin bagged another Academy Award for his screenplay. The special effects are a real treat, the love-beyond-the-grave theme is very touching, and the ending is wonderfully schmaltzy. Who said that sweetness and light were, erm, dead?
