This uplifting drama delivers two remarkable debuts for the price of one, as Nell Barlow stars in director Marley Morrison's quirky spin on the holiday romance. Skulking around a Dorset campsite in her bucket hat and shades, 17-year-old AJ (Barlow) is determined not to enjoy a caravan getaway with her fragmenting family. Then she meets lifeguard Isla (Ella-Rae Smith), who is intrigued by the socially awkward AJ's caustic wit and commitment to knitting jumpers for elephants in Indonesia. Not everything runs smoothly in their nascent attraction, as Isla has another admirer, and AJ is suffering from the emotional wrench of a past crush. However, Morrison avoids coming-out clichés to focus on the conflicted feelings of a teenager, and AJ's uncertainty at where she fits in the world seeps through a story that is smartly scripted, drolly directed and played with finesse by Barlow and the excellent ensemble.
