Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

In this cute and cuddly animation, the Abominable Snowman escapes from a Chinese laboratory and enlists three local kids to help him evade the bad guys and return home to the Himalayas. The film's Chinese/American origins are reflected in the odd bout of Zen philosophising, but its that very exoticness that elevates what is an otherwise formulaic kiddie thrill-ride. Some thoughtful moments aside, Abominable is intermittently very entertaining, and the magically powered yeti is easy to root for. The fact that the film doesn't live up to its title is, for once, a big relief.
