Summary

A globe-trotting mystery spanning decades threatens to tear one grief-stricken family apart in an eight-part drama based on Charmaine Wilkerson's best-selling novel. In California, widow Eleanor Bennett (Chipo Chung) loses her hard-fought battle with cancer and the reading of her will brings together her two estranged children, Benny (Adrienne Warren) and Byron (Ashley Thomas). They are bequeathed a flash drive of their mother's untold history, narrated by the late matriarch, which charts her odyssey from the Caribbean to America via Italy, Scotland and England. The truth about Eleanor's troubled past as a runaway bride named Covey (Mia Isaac) in the late 1960s, who is suspected of her husband's murder and goes on the run, dumbfounds Benny and Byron. They reevaluate everything they thought they knew about their mother and their origins
