It looks like Heartstopper star Kit Connor could become the next big name to join the MCU – with reports suggesting that he is set to take on a key role in the franchise going forward.

According to Deadline, the actor will be playing Scott Summers/Cyclops in the new line-up of the X-Men, taking over the role played by both James Marsden and Tye Sheridan in previous X-Men films.

While nothing has been officially announced at this stage, the publication has reported that director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige met with various candidates and have opted for Connor as their top pick.

Radio Times has reached out to Marvel Studios and Connor's reps for comment.

If the reports are accurate, it looks like Connor will be joining Samara Weaving in the all-new X-Men line-up, with the Ready or Not actor expected to star as Emma Frost in the new film.

Warning: there are spoilers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day if you read on...

It comes after Stranger Things star Sadie Sink recently made her MCU debut as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

It remains to be seen which other stars might join the cast as the rest of the X-Men, but we'd imagine there are some more big announcements in store in the coming days and weeks.

There is currently no official release date for the next X-Men film, but fans are certainly eager to say just how the franchise will tackle the mutants as they prepare to officially join the MCU.

Connor is of course best known for his role as Nick Nelson on hit Netflix teen drama Heartstopper, while he has also had film roles in Warfare and Rocketman and will have the lead role in Alex Garland's upcoming adaptation of the hit game Elden Ring.

His Heartstopper co-star Joe Locke is already in the MCU, having starred as Billy Maximoff / William Kaplan in Disney+ series Agatha All Along in 2024.
