Written and directed by Alex Garland (28 Years Later, Warfare), the film is a live action adaptation of the hit 2022 FromSoftware game.

Set in a dark fantasy world known as the Lands Between, the film focuses on the character of the 'Tarnished', a warrior on a quest to restore the titular Elden Ring.

It has now been confirmed in a joint press release from Bandai Namco Entertainment and A24 that the Elden Ring movie will release in theatres on 3 March 2028.

As well as noting that it is currently in production, the announcement confirmed that the movie will be releasing in IMAX.

The full main cast has also been revealed, with a host of names set to join the already-announced Kit Connor (Heartstopper, Warfare), Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Beef) and Ben Whishaw (Paddington, James Bond).

The new cast members include Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Black Bag), Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Ruby Cruz (Willow, Bottoms), Nick Offerman (The Last of Us, Parks and Recreation), John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird and Peter Serafinowicz.

Principal photography for the film began earlier this month in the UK, with further filming set to take place in Iceland later this year.

Elden Ring was developed by Japanese studio FromSoftware, and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki in collaboration with Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin, who contributed to the game's story and lore.

Since release in 2022, the game has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, and spawned the follow-up Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2024, and the spin-off Elden Ring Nightreign in 2025.

The movie is being produced by A24 alongside UK company DNA Films and the film arm of game company Bandai Namco Entertainment.
