All the hallmarks of Abi Morgan’s The Split are in evidence in this glossy six-part spin-off. Most obvious is the unmistakable air of success and understated wealth, from the power suits to the way Manchester family Kishan Law talks in millions when discussing A-list divorce settlements and pre-nups. There’s also intrigue, secrets, deception and sex, while everyone is not only impeccably groomed, but good-looking, too.
Soon-to-be-retired patriarchal company head Dhruv (Sanjeev Bhaskar) is reluctant to hand over the reins to his brilliant daughter Aria (Ritu Arya), continually wrong-footing firm her with surprise decisions, whether regarding her delayed wedding plans to fellow lawyer Neal (Danny Ashok), the appointment of old flame Luke (Dimitri Leonidas) or the details of the company’s future structure.
As if all that wasn’t enough, Aria is also handling the high-profile divorce case of a celebrity couple – played with believable sincerity by Lenny Henry and Jane Horrocks – who, somewhat ironically, are famous for their Marriage Works podcast.
