Summary

She describes the pleasure of working with her fellow cast members and how, despite her fondness of the programme, she finally decided to call time on the show

BBC Four has scheduled an evening of suburban snobbery and masterful monologuing to mark the death of Dame Patricia Routledge. It’s a night that begins with arguably her best-remembered creation: the tyrannical Hyacinth Bucket, whose climbing of the social ladder was forever destined to result in her crashing down the rungs in a frenzy.

From there, we segue into Routledge’s acclaimed portrayal of novelist Barbara Pym before ending with a tragicomic episode of Talking Heads in which the star plays a letter writer whose messages land her in trouble.
