This fact-based “honour killing” drama – like the Bafta-winning Murdered by My Boyfriend – is suffused with dread and tension. First shown on BBC3 and then given a BBC1 airing in 2016, the 75-minute film doesn’t dramatise any specific case, but does draw on the real experiences of many young women to highlight a hidden scar.

A brutal opening flash-forward tells us where we’re going, so we sit and watch helplessly as a weak, widowed dad (Adeel Akhtar) tries to ensure his 16-year-old daughter (Kiran Sonia Sawar) completes a “promised” marriage to a business associate. But she, fatally, loves someone else.
