Summary

Horror starring Sophie Thatcher. A family is grieving the mother's death in a car crash when a stranger enters their home and kills himself. Soon, a string of disturbing events plagues the household. Eldest daughter Sadie visits the dead man's widow, who warns her the culprit is an otherworldly being that feeds off grief and killed her own three children.

A monster preys on children in this slick creature feature based on a 1973 short story by Stephen King. When young Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) is targeted by a "boogeyman" that only emerges at night, her teenaged sister (Sophie Thatcher, from TV series Yellowjackets) is forced to battle the fiend, which their therapist dad (Chris Messina) dismisses as a figment of Sawyer's imagination. This is watchable, well-edited horror, although the biggest puzzle is why no one has a torch to deter a being that thrives in the shadows. Nevertheless, British director Rob Savage (Host) rustles up some effective jump-scares, while keeping the creature in the dark, Alien-style, until the incendiary climax.
