A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Jeremy Aspinall

This slick and intriguing thriller is inspired by the disturbing, real-life machinations of car salesman Robert Freegard (who is also the subject of Netflix docu-seriesThe Puppet Master). A debonair mystery man, he makes a living out of duping seemingly sensible people into believing he's an undercover MI5 agent, and they are in danger from the IRA. He then convinces them to drop out of society, cut all contact with their loved ones, and live off the radar - often for years. Gemma Arterton doesn't always convince as the high-flying lawyer who turns manhunter after her world is wrecked by Freegard. However,McMafiastar James Norton is chilling as her elusive prey, effortlessly slipping between self-confident charmer and menacing manipulator.
