This sweet, surprisingly thoughtful teen sci-fi adventure plays out like The Goonies on the moon. Mourning the recent death of his father, Caleb (Isaiah Russell-Bailey) leaves his moonbase home to travel to a mysterious crater that his dad wanted him to visit. He's joined by his pals (played by Mckenna Grace, Billy Barratt, Orson Hong and Thomas Boyce), who help him to steal a rover, and whose own personal struggles come to light over the course of their quest. The young cast is excellent, and their childish high jinks will entertain younger viewers. It's not all japes, though, and the profound concepts of John Griffin's script - the rights of lunar miners, the consequences of extended cryosleep - are well handled by director Kyle Patrick Alvarez. Like the crater of the film's title, this sci-fi story is deeper than it looks.
