Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) gives birth in Emmerdale next week, and it's safe to say that it doesn't exactly go to plan.

The pregnancy has been a complete and utter farce thus far, with Charity originally intending to carrying granddaughter Sarah Sugden's (Katie Hill) child. She fell pregnant herself, and has been left to conceal the secret for months.

Now, after heading out to retrieve a baby shower cake, her waters break and she's rushed to Hotten General. Trapped in a lift, she goes into labour – but will she be ok?

Meanwhile, Jacob Sugden (Jacob Gallagher) bravely reports Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) to HR, and newly-released Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) adjusts to her new life at Wishing Well Cottage, now that Butler's Farm has been handed over to the Sugden clan.

Here's everything you need to know about the episodes of Emmerdale airing between Sunday, 19th and Friday, 24th April.

1. Jacob Sugden confronts Dr Todd, and raises a complaint

Jacob finds himself under mounting pressure this week, after realising that Dr Todd has been manipulating him using his past - and has even moved into Tug Ghyll. With tensions running high both at work and at home, and the added strain of being called as a witness in Bear’s trial, Jacob is clearly struggling under the weight of it all.

Sensing something is wrong, Ross checks in and is taken aback when Jacob reveals his boss a woman. He encourages him to confront the situation head-on, and the advice prompts Jacob to seek out Dr Todd for a conversation.

However, the situation quickly escalates, and before long Jacob makes the bold decision to raise a formal complaint with her employers. Keeping Sarah in the dark about his meeting with HR, Jacob presses on, despite colleague Rich warning him that taking such action could amount to career suicide.

When Dr Todd spots Jacob heading into a meeting with HR, it’s clear this battle is far from over.

Misreading the situation, Cain becomes frustrated, convinced Moira has shared his private fears, and storms out. She's left reeling, opening up to Lydia that her plan has backfired.

Struggling with her loss of purpose away from the farm, Moira's left feeling increasingly adrift, while Robert quietly wrestles with guilt over the role he’s played in her current predicament.

Charity throws herself into organising Sarah’s baby shower, going all out to make it a day to remember. But when the cake supplier lets her down at the last minute, Charity and Mack set off to collect it themselves.

Disaster soon strikes when, after a quick stop, their car refuses to start - leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere without phones. Matters take a dramatic turn when Charity’s waters break. True soapy drama!

Spotting a passing car, Charity flags down Ross, who reluctantly agrees to drive them to the hospital. Back at the baby shower, Sarah makes her entrance and begins to wonder what’s keeping Charity and Jacob. When she discovers a string of missed calls on her phone, panic sets in.

At the hospital, events spiral further when the lift carrying Charity, Mack and Ross grinds to a halt. Trapped inside, Charity’s panic intensifies as her contractions worsen. The confined space also triggers Mack’s lingering trauma from the bunker, while Ross desperately tries to raise help via the intercom.

When Sarah arrives at the hospital, she's told there’s no record of Charity, leaving her fears spiralling.

Elsewhere in the same building, Jacob is in the midst of his HR meeting, his anxiety peaking as he recounts Dr Todd’s alleged bullying - completely unaware of the life-or-death drama unfolding just floors away. When a midwife receives an emergency call about a woman in labour trapped in a lift, Sarah fears the worst.
