Helena Bonham-Carter will no longer appear in the forthcoming fourth season of HBO's The White Lotus.

The star was announced as part of the Emmy award-winning show's line-up in January, though dropped out of filming on the French Riviera after less than a week.

The series focuses on a turbulent week at a five-star resort full of chaotic and entitled guests, with forthcoming instalments set to feature two branches in the hotel chain for the first time ever: the White Lotus du Cap and the White Lotus Cannes.

The official logline reads: "A new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival."

Creator Mike White previously shared the season will focus on the concept of celebrity, telling W Magazine he came up with the idea while filming reality series, Survivor 50.

He said: "It’s a bit about fame, about who has the world’s attention, who is the plus-one, and how that can organise a relationship.

"Some people are satisfied with the love of just an intimate partner, and some people need the love of strangers and a bigger kind of attention."

However, one famous name who won't be checking into the infamous hotel is Bonham-Carter, with a HBO spokesperson telling Deadline that her part will now be "rewritten and recast".

“With filming just underway on Season 4 of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” they explained.

“The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”

With cameras already rolling, the publication reports that production has been readjusted to work with other actors while the casting process is underway.

The main cast confirmed to be appearing are Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz.

Additional cast includes: Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet.

The White Lotus seasons 1-3 are available on Sky Atlantic, NOW and HBO Max.
