Review

Gabriel Tate

Perhaps better known as the home of distinctive feature-length documentaries, Storyville tonight showcases two films which, while shorter, still pack a considerable punch and share the loose theme of refusing to suffer in silence. Allies in Exile features Hasan Kattan and Fadi Al-Halabi, two Syrian film- makers as they navigate the bureaucracy and uncertainty of the British asylum system. Meanwhile Unknown Substance (10.40pm) profiles Evgenia Kara-Murza, wife of the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Vladimir. The latter’s strident opposition to Putin saw him poisoned twice before a 25-year prison sentence.
