Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

This was the first and easily the best of pint-sized rock star Prince's forays into film. Breathtakingly egotistical, it follows the adventures of struggling rock singer "The Kid" as he battles to the top of the pop tree, despite the underhand tactics of his rivals. The less said about the lead performances the better, although Morris Day eclipses the star with a charismatic turn, but Prince and the Revolution were at the height of their powers and the hits Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry are memorably captured by director Albert Magnoli.
