In the new year we'll see Doctor Who's David Tennant return to sleuthing in ITV’s Broadchurch – but it looks like his role in the drama’s transatlantic cousin has come to an end.
Gracepoint, an American remake of Broadchurch starring Tennant and Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn, faced dwindling ratings with just 4 million viewers tuning into the finale on Fox this week. The series was also criticised for its similarities to Broadchurch, acting almost as a shot-for-shot remake in certain scenes (though with a subtly different ending).
Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, it won’t be returning for a second series. It was originally billed as a “limited series” and not a new long-running drama, but Fox would doubtless have found a way to bring it back had it been a success – in a similar way to ITV and the original Broadchurch.
Still, not to worry Tennant fans – we still have the original to look forward to in January, with the added bonus of Olivia Colman.
