Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) has faced questioning from social services in Coronation Street.

It comes after she whacked foster daughter Lucy Parkinson (Anya Dewin) over the head with a vase, believing she was an escaped prisoner dressed up as a ghost. Yes, that really happened.

Sally's other foster daughter Joanie Michaelis (Savanna Pennington) had read an article online about a riot at her dad Mick's (Joe Layton) prison, and given he'd managed to escape before, wondered whether he might be successful again.

Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) shut down the youngster's concerns and whisked her, alongside Lucy, off to the Rovers' Halloween bash. Sally, meanwhile, stayed at home and became fearful that she was being tormented.

Someone dressed as a ghost appeared at the window, and suddenly the landline began to ring. When Sally answered, there was nobody on the other side of the phone.

When she turned around, Lucy appeared in her costume, and was attacked. Tim raced over as his cousin's daughter insisted that his wife had purposely assaulted her.

In today's episode, the Metcalfes received a surprise knock at the door. It was Ruth (Amy Drake), the social worker, and she explained that Lucy had left her a voicemail during the night and wanted to discuss a journal she'd collated.

The book contained drawings of Sally looking angry, and accusations of nasty and controlling behaviour.

Ruth assured the couple that they weren't in trouble, though wondered whether they were taking too much on with both Lucy and the Michaelis children. As a result, she wanted the teen to go and stay in a respite home for a number of days until things settled down.

Despite her earlier victorious look towards Sally, Lucy wasn't happy.

Outside on Maxine Peacock's memorial bench, she spoke with Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) about her current predicament and how Sally hit her. Although Lucy is unaware, viewers know that Christina is her grandmother.

Later, Christina returned home and told partner George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) that she isn't satisfied with the care that Sally is providing. She wanted to challenge Sally about the attack, and couldn't believe when the Metcalfes revealed that Lucy was no longer living on the cobbles.

After a furious argument, Sally broke down in Tim's arms.

When will Lucy return to No. 4, and will Christina try and seek to look after her?
