Jonathan Lynn (1985)

PG Certificate

Our Score
Based on the board game Clue (known as Cluedo in the UK), this is a perfect example of a gimmick movie. The plot (an amalgam of various Agatha Christie clich├ęs) involves a number of guests invited to dinner at a spooky mansion, where they endure a murderous evening. Scripted and directed by British sitcom stalwart Jonathan Lynn in his first Hollywood venture, this is a broad, somewhat camp comedy with a vulgar edge. Originally released with three different endings, though there was only one version in the UK.

Six strangers who are all being blackmailed are summoned to a remote mansion run by a bizarre butler, to meet the man who knows their secrets. When the blackmailer subsequently turns up dead, the guests must uncover which of them is the guilty party - or if someone else is in the house. Comedy, based on the board game Cluedo, starring Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Lesley Ann Warren and Michael McKean.
