Sylvester Stallone’s cult classic Cop Land is getting the TV treatment, with James Mangold returning at the helm.

Mangold is set to direct, co-write and executive produce the new adaptation of his movie from Paramount Television Studios and Miramax Television, according to Deadline.

The remake of the '90s crime thriller marks Mangold’s first foray into the world of TV drama as a writer; his most recent small screen project was the period drama Damnation, on which he served as an executive producer.

Deadline also reports that the news comes in the wake of Mangold signing an overall deal with Paramount Pictures last September - a month after the merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Entertainment.

The original film, which Mangold wrote as well as helmed, follows Freddy Heflin (Stallone), a New Jersey sheriff, who faces off against corrupt New York City police officers residing in his small town.

Alongside Stallone, the cast also featured Robert De Niro as Lieutenant Moe Tilden, Ray Liotta as Officer Gary “Figgsy” Figgis and Harvey Keitel as Lieutenant Ray Donlan.

Robert Patrick also starred as Officer Jack Rucker, alongside Annabella Sciorra as Liz Randone, Edie Falco as Berta, and Janeane Garofalo as Deputy Sheriff Cindy Betts.

The cast for the remake is yet to be announced.

In recent years, Mangold has directed the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
