Ted Lasso season 4 has dropped its official trailer – as the lovable football manager returns to take over the female team at AFC Richmond.

Ahead of the show's return on 5 August, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) is seen returning to the changing room as Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) greets him.

After years of keeping his distance, it seems time has softened the foul-mouthed Roy, who pulls him in for a hug.

While the trailer doesn't give too much away, we're introduced to some of the new Lady Greyhounds, the female players forming a team as part of a passion project spearheaded by Keeley (Juno Temple) and team owner Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham).

Among the new characters is a determined and stern-faced new coach for the second-division female team played by Sex Education's Tanya Reynolds.

As the song Run Together by Mumford and Sons plays out, quick clips show Ted and Keeley catching up on an office sofa, Roy still learning how to navigate being friends with Keeley following their split, and the team celebrating victories as the female squad get off the ground.

With pub landlady Mae (Annette Badland) ready to pull some pints, and Ted's growing teenage son Henry also around, it seems the main friendships of the show are as strong as ever.

But that doesn't mean it'll be easy, with Ted and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) appearing in one clip in what seems to be a police cell – though Beard looks more worried about it than Ted does.

Ted Lasso season four is set to air weekly through to 7 October, with the official synopsis also keen not to give too much away, simply noting: "Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would."

The show is Apple TV's biggest smash-hit to date, with fans embracing the show's positive message and "football is life" can-do attitude.

Speaking to RadioTimes ahead of the series launch, Hannah Waddingham said: "Oh, it's going to be… the writing just continues to excel like it always has, and we have our Lady Greyhounds. So it's going to be a wonderful season."

Ted Lasso season 4 starts 5 August on Apple TV. Seasons 1-3 are streaming now – you can sign up to Apple TV+ here.
