Summary

Told from multiple points of view, as a means to explore issues of perspective, bias, and trauma, this compelling drama is inspired by the disturbing stories surrounding a Midwestern couple who adopts a girl with a rare form of dwarfism. But as they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, mystery emerges around her age and background, and they slowly start to suspect she may not be who she says she is

The bizarre tale of Natalia Grace has bewitched America – now it becomes a complex drama. US couple Kristine (Ellen Pompeo) and Michael Barnett (Mark Duplass) adopt a Ukrainian girl who has dwarfism, but a year later they abandon her, making the extraordinary claim that Natalia (Imogen Faith Read) is not eight years old, but 22, and is behaving in disturbing ways.

What seems like a standard re-telling of a lurid true-crime story – the Barnetts faced criminal proceedings when they moved to Canada, leaving Natalia to fend for herself – gains more depth when it looks at events from the perspective of multiple characters.
