The reboot of the 1980s crime drama, which is now officially titled Miami Vice '85, is scheduled to land in cinemas on 6 August 2027, with production set to start later this year.

Jordan (Sinners) will star as Detective Rico Tubbs, while Butler (Elvis) will play Detective Sonny Crockett.

The duo were first reported to be in talks to lead the cast of the movie last year, with director Joseph Kosinski telling Variety at the time: “Michael is someone I’ve admired for a long time, [and] always wanted to work with him. Austin, I think, is proving himself as someone to watch. Again, I’ve just have really admired his choices."

He added: "If it ends up being those two, I’d be very lucky.”

The original TV show aired on NBC from 1984 to 1989, following Rico and Sonny, a pair of undercover detectives in Miami, as they work to combat the city’s drug trafficking operations.

The series has been rebooted once before as a 2006 feature film, which starred Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell in the lead roles.

The official synopsis for the reboot, which has been penned by Dan Gilroy, reveals it will follow "the glamour and corruption of mid-'80s Miami [and is] inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking".
