Summary

Action fantasy starring Christopher Lambert and featuring Sean Connery. An antiques dealer living in modern New York is, in fact, a 16th-century Scottish warrior, one of a group known as "immortals", who can only be killed when decapitated by another of their kind. Meanwhile, the city's police are rather concerned by the discovery of a headless body and an ancient sword in an underground car park.

Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

So confused as to be hilariously watchable, this cult movie from director Russell Mulcahy wavers between sci-fi, horror and music video. Christopher Lambert is the 16th-century Scottish clansman who is schooled into being an immortal swordsman by Sean Connery, before battling with the evil Kurgan (Clancy Brown). There are some great sword-lunging duels - the best of which is set in a Madison Square Garden garage - but the story is never that engaging despite a soaring collection of Queen songs on the soundtrack. Still, the film managed to spawn multiple sequels and a hit TV series.
