Summary

Being yourself is an out of world experience in an outlandish comedy of empowerment written and directed by Liz W Garcia. Tiffany Simpson (Emma Roberts), known as Rex to friends, doesn't have the academic background to fulfil her long-cherished dream of venturing into space. Best friend Nadine (Poppy Liu) cheerfully embellishes Tiffany's application to enrol in NASA's astronaut training program. Unfortunately, Rex can only bluff and bluster so far and she risks exposing the deception to NASA program directors Pam (Gabrielle Union) and Logan (Tom Hopper). Rex resolves to claw her way to the top of the class and prove that a simple girl from Florida has everything it takes to venture into the cosmos for her country

Lying on your CV is bad. Lying on your CV to get into Nasa? Extra bad. But Rex (Emma Roberts) actually has no idea she's told any fibs on her application: that's because the resumé she wrote to get onto an astronaut training programme was jazzed up at the last minute by her friend Nadine (Poppy Liu). By the time she realises what Nadine has done, Rex is in too deep to give up her dreams... but she still needs to show that she can fly a fighter jet. Writer/director Liz W Garcia was inspired by the optimistic charm of Legally Blonde's Elle Woods, though Roberts takes the ditzy behaviour too far with a rather grating performance. Still, the film's supporting cast of misfits is entertaining - with Liu, in particular, an agent of Looney Tunes-style chaos. Filmed at the US Space and Rocket Center, the film also has just enough space geekery to please younger Nasa fans.
