Legendary music industry mover 'n' shaker Danny Fields tells his star-studded life story in this candid documentary that plays like a greatest hits of rock 'n' roll recollections. A Zelig-like presence on the left-field music scene from the 1960s through to the 80s, Fields hung out at Warhol's Factory, signed the MC5 and Stooges, managed the Ramones, while giving a leg-up to countless others. He was also responsible for running the Beatles' "bigger than Jesus" story while editor of a 60s teen magazine, which very nearly finished the band for good in the US. As the film's title suggests, there's no shortage of yarn-spinning, with Fields proving a smart and sometimes salacious storyteller. The inclusion of privately taped conversations with the likes of Iggy Pop, Nico and Lou Reed is a nice, intimate touch and further evidence - if any was required - that Fields was both a fan of and friend to the talents he worked with. The fact that those people come out in their droves to pay tribute speaks volumes.
