The final episode of Cross season 2 has only just become available to stream on Prime Video, yet already we've got some huge news regarding the future of the show.

It's come at a good time, as fans were already desperate to know whether the multiple hanging threads left at the end of the season will be picked up in new episodes.

Amongst these threads are Kayla's links to previous shady operations and her continued alliance with Bobby Trey, Sampson having the chance to meet his father and, biggest of all, Alex leaving the police, having become disillusioned with the US justice system.

But what is the news regarding this current adaptation of James Patterson's books? Will we get to see how all of this plays out in a season 3, or is this the end of the road for Aldis Hodge's hero?

Read on for everything you need to know about Cross season 3.

There will! It was confirmed on 18 March 2026, the date the season 2 finale dropped, that Cross would be returning for season 3, with Aldis Hodge back in the title role.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement: "From the beginning, Cross has captivated audiences with its layered characters, pulse-pounding suspense and emotionally grounded storytelling. Aldis has delivered a definitive portrayal of Alex Cross, anchoring the series with depth, intelligence and heart.

"We’re thrilled to continue this journey with Ben, our collaborators at Paramount Television Studios and the rest of the incredible cast to bring even more of James Patterson’s iconic world to our global Prime Video audience."

This news was unsurprising. Not only has the show been hugely popular, but the ending of season 2 certainly set up another season, with plenty of threads left hanging - not least of which Alex leaving the police, which doesn't feel like it can last for too long before he gets drawn back in.

Previously, creator Ben Watkins teased that he has a "four-year plan" for the show, meaning there are still two seasons which are at least loosely mapped out.

"We want this thing to go for 10 seasons," Watkins told The Hollywood Reporter, "but in my head, I had already made a four-year plan, and it’s based on some things that I want to do to mine and pay homage to the characters that are in the Alex Cross book series.

"Even though I’m doing new stories, I want at some point for there to be a dovetail between these characters, so I’ve been planting these seeds."

When will Cross season 3 be released?

It's hard to say exactly when Cross season 3 will be released yet, but we'd imagine the show will stick to a similar timeline to the one it followed between seasons 1 and 2.

There was just over a year between those two seasons being released - 15 months to be exact. If the show were to follow a similar production schedule ahead of season 3, we would therefore expect it to start airing around late spring/early summer 2027.

Of course, this is just speculation for now, and we will keep this page updated with any news as we get it.

Who will star in Cross season 3?

We don't yet know who will be returning for Cross season 3, but it has already been suggested that Aldis Hodge will be back as Alex Cross - and we'd certainly be surprised if he wasn't!

We'd also expect his partner and best friend John Sampson to be back, meaning a return for Isaiah Mustafa, while the likes of Alona Tal's Kayla Craig and Samantha Walkes's Elle Monteiro would also be expected back in the cast.

Here's a full list of the main cast members we would expect to return in a potential Cross season 3:

  • Aldis Hodge as Alex Cross
  • Isaiah Mustafa as John Sampson
  • Alona Tal as Kayla Craig
  • Samantha Walkes as Elle Monteiro
  • Juanita Jennings as Regina 'Nana Mama' Cross
  • Caleb Elijah as Damon Cross
  • Melody Hurd as Janelle 'Jannie' Cross
  • Johnny Ray Gill as Bobby Trey
  • Jennifer Wigmore as Chief Anderson
