Ed Balls lolloping around the dance floor to Gangnam Style. Ed Balls thrusting to Great Balls of Fire with a flying piano. Ed Balls almost dropping his dance partner on live TV. If there was one reason this year’s Strictly Come Dancing was a highlight of the year, Balls was it. He might have divided the nation, but for ten weeks the former MP raised a wry smile and a titter at a time when – by heck – we needed it. Add in Ore Oduba’s hip action, Judge Rinder’s OTT facial expressions and the fact that series 14 was Len Goodman’s swansong and there’s no denying it – this was a corker. Frances Taylor
