Episode 1: Series 19 Episode 1: Rescue Special

Summary

A rescue special, featuring the amazing stories - old and new - of some of the animals for whom Noel has provided extraordinary and life-saving treatment since The Supervet began in 2014, and the families at the centre of their inspiring stories. Animals featured include rescue whippet Wobble, who at only a year old in 2015 was wobbling due to a compression fracture in her neck and German shepherd rescue Bran, who first came to Fitzpatricks in 2019 and received an innovative custom total hip replacement - the first of its kind for a three-legged dog

Review

Jane Rackham

Rescue animals have already been dealt an unfair paw in life, so it’s even more heartbreaking when they then need radical surgery to help give them another chance. In this opening episode — a rescue special — we get to see some former patients as well as some new ones needing care and attention.

We catch up with Bran from 2019, a three-legged German shepherd with hip dysplasia and Wobble from 2015 (now called Minnie), the anxious whippet with spinal damage caused by being kicked as a puppy. However, it’s cute kitten Pretzel who instantly captivates Professor Noel Fitzpatrick. She has seriously twisted back legs and other vets have advised euthanasia.

The cameras have been following Noel’s work for eight years and while his surgical skill and ethics are both extraordinary and admirable, it’s also his empathetic, honest treatment of humans that makes this so special.
