Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

There are signs the novelty may be wearing off in this third Lego-inspired feature film, which panders to all things kung fu with an additional smattering of Japanese monster movies. It's bookended by live-action sequences, in which storekeeper Jackie Chan relates the story of a bunch of Power Ranger-like super-ninjas who battle a baddie with serious daddy issues. The Godzilla-style trashing of Lego city tower blocks by monster-size cat Meowthra is a highlight, but the film doesn't come close to the creative brilliance of the original Lego Movie or its Lego Batman Movie follow-up. It's certainly brash and breezy enough to keep youngsters mildly amused, though adults may well agree that it's time to say leggo to Lego.
