Life on Mars to From There to Here – Liz White’s TV CV

She's acted opposite Philip Glenister twice, watched Clara Oswald die and scared the hell out of Daniel Radcliffe - meet British actress Liz White

If you spot Liz White in From There to Here and wonder where you’ve seen her before, her co-star Philip Glenister might give you a clue – as well as playing his love interest in the 90s-set BBC1 drama, White was WPC/DC Annie Cartwright to Glenister’s DCI Gene Hunt in 70s time-shift drama Life on Mars.

But where else might you have you seen her…? Liz White’s career is burgeoning right now so her major roles are limited but her supporting work has also included ITV drama The Fixer, BBC2 period offering The Crimson Petal and the White and the occasional (if sometimes terrifying) blink-and-you’ll-miss-it part in Doctor Who and The Woman in Black

Life on Mars (2006-2007)

As WPC – and later Detective Constable – Annie Cartwright Liz was a woman in a man’s world, under the command of Philip Glenister’s DCI Gene Hunt in groundbreaking 1970s-set BBC1 cop drama Life on Mars…

The Fixer (2008)

Liz played Jess Mercer, the sister of Andrew Buchan’s former Special Forces man John, who is recruited to a covert security squad after serving time for killing the aunt and uncle who abused Jess…

The Crimson Petal and the White (2011)

In the BBC2 period miniseries, Liz played Caroline, the friend of Ramola Garai’s vengeful prostitute Sugar…

Doctor Who: The Snowmen (2012)

In the 2012 Doctor Who Christmas special, eagled-eyed viewers spotted Liz as maid Alice, who witnessed the death of Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald…

The Woman in Black (2012)

You’d be forgiven for not recognising Liz alongside (and behind!) Daniel Radcliffe as the ghostly title character in Gothic horror film The Woman in Black – she’s generally on screen for a fraction of a second at a time, often wearing a veil and usually in the early stages of decomposition. This shot is definitely one of her more flattering appearances…

From There to Here (2014)

Liz plays Joanne, who meets Philip Glenister’s Daniel in the extreme situation of the 1996 IRA Manchester bombing and embarks on an affair with a man she doesn’t know is married…
