The last Downton Abbey Christmas special seemed to go down well with fans. There were no car crashes, no deaths, nothing to put us off our mince pies. There was even a fair amount of pomp and ceremony, as the Crawleys rubbed shoulders with royalty...
But, if you ask me, there was still something missing. You know, the Christmas tree, the carols, the banqueting table weighed down with Mrs Patmore's festive delights, the romantic proposals in winter coats as the snow swirls around the Abbey. (Now THAT was a proper Downton Christmas special.)
Luckily, it seems the cast of the hit period drama are in agreement.
"There is a very large campaign going on to make sure the next Downton Christmas special will have a tree, snow, presents..." Allen Leech told us at last night's Radio Times Covers Party. "I hope that campaign goes well."
"We are aiming for a Downton proper Christmas special," continued the star, who plays the show's chauffeur turned aristocrat Tom Branson,. "A Christmas, Christmas special."
Asked whether those festive plans are definitely set to become a reality, Leech remained tight-lipped, teasing: "You’ll find out on the 25 December!"
Now I don't know about you, but that's got me feeling a little festive. Only 329 days to go...
