Review

Our Score
Twelve years after Gumshoe, his directing debut, Stephen Frears made his second big-screen outing with this surreal comedy thriller - a blend of cockney gorblimey characters with a dash of Buñuel and spaghetti western. Terence Stamp plays a supergrass, exiled in Spain, where hitmen John Hurt and Tim Roth track him down and abduct him. Stamp is cool about the whole thing and seems to accept his destiny, while the hoods are as jumpy as fleas. Charismatic acting, the seemingly endless road across the Spanish plains and the unexpected twist make for very stylish entertainment. Terrific score, too, from guitar virtuoso Paco de Lucia.

Summary

A pair of ice-cold hit-men arrive in Spain to return a Mob informer to Paris to face the music, but his ultra-cool attitude soon puts their nerves on edge, ensuring that nothing goes according to plan. It's not long before they're embroiled in a battle of wits and wills that will have serious consequences for all concerned. Thriller, starring Terence Stamp, John Hurt and Tim Roth, making his movie debut.
