The 5 drama, which is based on the novel series by C L Skelton, focuses on the titular family as they navigate their rise from rags to riches during the 1890s.

In the new clip, the Hardacres can be seen still trying to find their feet after rising from poverty to wealth, whilst they’re also tasked with navigating the shifting world in 1895.

The footage also gives fans a first look at the family’s new foe, Lady Imelda Hansen (played by A Very British Scandal's Michele Dotrice).

She says of the Hardacres: "I want to make an example of them. A warning to anybody who thinks they can buy class. That family has to be stopped."

Claire Cooper and Liam McMahon are reprising their roles as Mary and Sam Hardacre alongside Julie Graham as Mary's mother, Ma, in season 2.

Adam Little, Shannon Lavelle, and Zak Ford-Williams will also be back as the Hardacre children Joe, Liza, and Harry, respectively, while other returning faces include Holly Sturton, Cathy Belton, Owen Roe, Ingrid Craigie, and Sarah Agha.

Alongside Dotrice, other new additions to the cast include Niall McNamee (Saipan) as Edward Blackwood, and Edward Mitchell (Justice League) as Arthur Lewis.

The official synopsis for season 2 teases: "Mary and Sam embrace wealth and opportunity, but their children begin forging identities that challenge expectations. Mary champions adult education for dock workers, while Sam expands the family business amid a looming recession, uncertain if Joe is ready to succeed him.

"Determined to prove himself, Joe’s impulsive choices threaten his future. Liza, recovering from romantic disappointment, is swept up by a chance encounter with a handsome stranger, while Harry’s plans to abandon school are transformed by an inspiring new tutor.

"Ma forms an unexpected bond but as some relationships blossom, others are strained. As tensions rise, Lady Imelda Hansen arrives at the Fitzherbert’s home with a dangerous agenda, forcing the Hardacres to unite or risk losing everything."

The Hardacres airs on 5.
