Margaret – Elizabeth Counsell

Bill’s elderly mother Margaret is a patient at the hospital in which Sam’s mother Jenny is a geriatric nurse.

Counsell has been appearing on screen since the early 1960s, starring as Eponine in a 1967 TV mini-series of Les Misérables and the BBC mini-series Agatha Christie's Miss Marple: The Moving Finger, among others. More recently, she has had roles in the biographical film Grace of Monaco, starring Nicole Kidman, the TV drama Doctors, and Casualty.

Peter – Richard Coyle

Sam’s violent father is nearing his parole date, a secret Sam’s mother would rather keep, having convinced Sam that his dad died in a car crash.

Richard Coyle got his television break in 90s comedy Coupling and has since starred in Strange, Covert Affairs, The Fall and US drama Crossbones.
