The crossover comes as part of Evangelion's 30th anniversary celebrations, with a new anime adaptation in the works from Drakengard and Nier developer Yoko Taro.

Now, as part of the Fan Fest 2026 in Anaheim, FF14 director Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) has announced that multiple new Evangelion-themed raids will be coming to the game in the future.

Dubbed 'Ghosts of Desire', Yoshida confirmed of the crossover's development that, "Square Enix will be developing the content while the producer of Evangelion Yoko Taro will be fully supervising."

Yoshida continued, explaining his love for the series, noting that "I'm a massive Evangelion otaku," before sighing and exclaiming, "Pressure!"

A short teaser trailer for the expansion revealed the news, though unfortunately, it does not show any content from the update.

Directed by legendary anime creator Hideki Anno, Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most popular and influential anime series of all time.

It tells the story of Shinji Ikari, a teenage boy recruited into the mysterious Nerv organisation to pilot giant mechs called Evangelions against supernatural beings known as Angels who threaten the earth.

Details on the specifics of these Evangelion raids are sparse, with more information slated to arrive at the Berlin Fan Fest event taking place in July.

Unfortunately, that also means we have no information on when the Evangelion crossover is set to take place.

It's certainly been an exciting morning for FF14 fans, with the game's next expansion having also been confirmed at the opening of Anaheim Fan Fest.

Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold, the sxith expansion in the series, is set to debut early next year.
