A remake of the fourth mainline series entry, the original Assassin's Creed Black Flag is regarded as one of the best AC games. When it comes out, it will be a bit odd playing the Assassin's Creed games in order when you jump ahead to such brilliant graphics and back again, but if there was ever a title to revisit, it was probably Black Flag.

We'll get into much more detail below, but the world is now seamless, making sailing around and landing at docks much smoother than before, which would be worth it on its own, but there are new story arcs to explore as well, taking it beyond a simple remake.

But for all things Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, read on!

There's still some time yet before Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced comes out, though, so be sure to check out all the upcoming games in 2026 and beyond to see what you can play in the interim!

Naval battles look more fun than ever in AC Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is coming PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Judging by Ubisoft’s efforts with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, we could see an eventual Nintendo Switch 2 port, as they will no doubt want it on as many platforms as possible. However, no such announcement has been made yet, and it could pan out that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is beyond what the Switch 2 is capable of.

Depending on exactly when it comes out, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced may also receive a PlayStation 6 and next-gen Xbox version, with the former suggesting it would also be playable on the much-rumoured PlayStation handheld.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced gameplay and story details

The original Black Flag follows protagonist Edward Kenway, captain of the Jackdaw, as he sleuths and assassinates his way around the 18th-century Caribbean, trying to unravel a conspiracy between the Templars, British and Spanish Empires, and this is much the same for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, though with new narrative arcs and additions.

Sadly, there is no multiplayer, and the Freedom Cry DLC is not included either.

The star of the show, of course, is the Jackdaw, as sailing around islands in what felt like a Pirates of the Caribbean simulator is just as much fun as it was in 2013.

There's now seamless travel between sailing and visiting islands, meaning the world isn't broken up by loading screens anymore. Something made possible by not being beholden to mechanical drives and the read-write speed of discs.

There are three new officers to recruit, each with their own backstories to explore. Adding them to your crew adds additional abilities to your ship.

What's more, you can bring a cat or monkey aboard the Jackdaw, which really is the defining feature of this remake, if we're being honest.

Combat has been overhauled too, making it much more fluid, engaging and more in line with modern sensibilities. Even things such as eavesdropping have been revamped, with being discovered not bringing about an instant desync. Instead, players will have to adapt.

Is there an Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced trailer?

Yes, there is an Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Official Game Overview Trailer now available to watch.

For your viewing pleasure, we have linked it just above. The trailer shows off the huge visual leap from the original, and whilst it's still a handsome game by all accounts, 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity was such a leap that it quickly looked old, a reminder of its 7th-generation console origins.

Not so anymore, however, with Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, powered by the latest version of the Anvil engine
