Barlow men are famously bad fathers. There’s a plague of negligence casting a shadow over the family name, from patriarch Ken abandoning twins Peter and Susan in the early 70s – allowing them to grow up in bonny Scotland – to a sleeping Peter’s cigarette igniting the flat he shared with son Simon in 2010.
Now the baton is passed to Daniel, who drunkenly stumbles back to his flat following an online trolling ordeal where he finally unmasks his perpetrator, and fails to provide food for son Bertie.
As Daniel beds down for the night, the seven-year-old prepares his own grub, causing smoke to flood through the living room. Soon, both of their lives are in peril.
