Spider-Man: Brand New Day has landed in cinemas, launching Tom Holland back onto our screens for his fourth solo MCU outing as Peter Parker/ Spider-Man.

The sequel follows Parker as he takes on villains, saves New Yorkers and tries to unravel a strange and mysterious transformation that’s causing him to go full spider without realising.

The hype surrounding Brand New Day is more feverish than any superhero film since the last Spider-Man film (Spidey is in a different league, though, so it’s hardly fair), partly thanks to the success of No Way Home.

That film ended with Doctor Strange casting a spell to make everyone forget Peter Parker, including his best pals MJ and Ned. This left Pete alone, with a brand new suit and a police scanner, ready to fight crime in New York. In other words, it ended where most Spidey stories begin.

It’s not just No Way Home that’s building hype for the latest Spidey adventure. It’s been over a year since the last MCU entry (Fantastic Four: First Steps) and it drops just months before Avengers: Doomsday, the latest team-up movie that brings pretty much every hero from every universe up against the formidable Doctor Doom.

Thankfully, the wait is over and the Brand New Day has come. Read on as we unpack the ending and post-credits scenes for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Beware, though. If you haven’t seen Spider-Man: Brand New Day, turn back now.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day ending explained - What happens to Peter Parker?

After helping Damage Control capture psychic mutant Jean Grey (that’s right, Sadie Sink is Jean Grey), Spider-Man realises that he’s been lied to and that Grey might not be the villain after all. This leads him to a prison facility where Damage Control are holding Grey and subjecting her to strange psychic experiments. The same experiments that ultimately killed Grey’s sister, Sara, who she’d spent the first half of the film searching for.

In her grief, she manages to take control of thousands of people across New York, freezing them in place just as Spider-Man arrives. After fighting his way through the ninjas of The Hand and getting a handle on his new, amped-up Spidey powers, he makes it to Jean Grey. There he shares a treasured memory of Aunt May with the grieving mutant, helping her realise she’s not alone.

Unfortunately, The Punisher has taken up a position on a nearby rooftop, unleashing a single bullet bound for Jean Grey. With his Peter tingle warning him, Spidey throws himself in front of the bullet and saves Jean Grey’s life.

On death's door, The Punisher takes Spidey to hospital where Jean uses her psychic powers to keep him alive just long enough for him to get help. After healing, Peter wakes up as a crowd of Spider-Man fans outside wish him well, helping him to realise he’s not as alone as he’d previously thought. Following a brief and hilarious Punisher diversion, Peter manages to escape the hospital and get back to his life.

How does Ned remember Peter at the end of Brand New Day?

In the final moments of the film, he sees Ned, still oblivious as to who Peter is, in a deli and finally has the courage to approach him.

There, he initiates the pair's famous handshake, which Ned instinctively knows in its entirety, helping him to finally recognise Peter and get back the memories lost at the end of No Way Home. Now, he just needs to help MJ remember.

Is there a post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Yes, there is a post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It comes right at the very end of the credits and is one of the most mysterious teasers Marvel has ever included in one of their films.

We see Ned’s Spidey tracker app pop up on the screen showing that Spider-Man has been sighted in New York. The tracker then follows Spidey as he gets further and further away from the city, glitching out before eventually settling somewhere in outer space.

The obvious answer is that this is a teaser for either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. Maybe the mysterious off-world location the app finds him is Battleworld, Doctor Doom’s chaotic realm built out of the ruins of the multiverse?

Or maybe it’s teasing some far flung planet beyond our solar system where Spidey ends up in Doomsday? Currently, we don’t know if Spider-Man will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, though given that both Robert Downey Jr and Kevin Feige have hinted at the cast being a lot larger than what’s already been revealed, it seems reasonable to assume he’s going to show up at some point.

How does Spider-Man: Brand New Day set up Avengers: Doomsday?

Brand New Day is largely a standalone adventure for Spider-Man with no major teases for Doomsday beyond the post-credits scene. That doesn’t mean we don’t get any teases for the future of the MCU, though.

Jean Grey is the first major X-Men character to be introduced to the Earth-616 (main MCU universe), giving us our first tease of what to expect from the mutants in the MCU. Given that the next phase/saga is expected to be heavily focused around the X-Men, Jean Grey’s appearance feels like the biggest surprise of all.

As for Doomsday, we’ll have to wait and see.
